  • One Life to Live...


    If you knew you had a week or even a day left to live, how would you spend your remaining time?


    Some of you might say that you'd want to spend the time with loved ones and possibly make peace with God or something.  I guess that depends on whether you're religious or not but for the most part you want to try and live your remaining days as a good person.  Others however might have a different idea in mind. 


    I wouldn't be surprised if some if not a lot of people out there would opt to pursue a less honorable or perhaps a more exciting way of going.  Just some examples:



    • Borrowing a shit load of money (loans, cash, credit cards, etc.) and going apeshit as you spend it on fast cars and even faster women.  Sex, drugs and rock and roll.  Condoms?  Who needs them?  You're going to die anyways.
    • Going out and beating up or killing ever person that you don't like or maybe just random people for the hell of it.
    • Rob a bank maybe?  Go on a crime spree?

    Well, you get the idea.  The point is, when faced with death I think a person's true character reveals itself.  Some people will reflect on their life and try to make amends for things they've done and the people they've wronged.  Perhaps making peace with yourself means making peace with everyone else first.  On the other hand, some people will show just how self-centered and incompassionate they can be. 


    Personally, I'd go out and try to do something to affect or even change a person's life in a positive way before dying. 



    • Maybe buy a shit load of food and just go around giving it to homeless people around the city. 
    • Tell every person I know what I really think of them.  If it's bad, I'll tell them why I think the way I do and maybe that person may re-evaluate their lives.  (I know I may come off as being holier than thou in the process but who cares?)
    • Do whatever I can to make the lives of the people I care for a little better...financially if I'm able.  If not, perhaps emotionally?  *shrug*

    For myself, I'd want to eat at the finest restaurants I could while spending my time with loved ones.  I just want to be able to say to myself that I lived a good life when my time comes.  Reflecting on my life should make me feel proud, not ashamed...


    So if you had a week left to live, what would you do? 



    P.S. Before people start asking what brought about such a morbid topic, the reason is that one of the classes I'm taking this semester is Will, Trusts & Estates and it just got me wondering.

  • i agree with you about their true characters coming out.  if i had a week left, that's not enough time to travel.  i'd probably try to spend it with my loved ones.  maybe make amends with some.  but yeah, good food.  DEF.

  • and would you do ANY of those above things on your list right now?  now that you have the chance to?  i don't like to think of what i would do because it's a complete waste of time.. why evaluate that when you can make a difference now?

  • within one week, i would be back to 170 pounds rolling all over my couch while watching jerry springer with my loved ones.  conclusion: i am and always will be a lazy, food loving, family girl.

  • yes, very morbid topic. I would try to see and touch as many people, things and places as I can. There's nothing more electrifying in life as to be able to reach out and feel something. It's something in death that I think spirits can't do.

  • ultimate eh?  i actually organized summer league at flushing meadow a couple years back...got a decent amount of people every week.  but it seems less and less people play lately.   hopefully this softball thing can work.

  • Go around and make speeches and proselytize everyone with Cokie Beliefs. Ugh. But really, I'd take the honorable route and rev up my daily routines...since death in itself is really no one's decision. For ex, if I was diagnosed with a disease and the doc told me I had less than a month to live, I guess I'd try to find my strengths and build upon my effectiveness in the social community.

  • haha.. i think i'd get my car washed as soon as possible if i saw that on my hood. if i was sure that i had a week to live.. i wouldn't change my life that much. i already spend a lot of time with the people that i love, and they know that i care about them. the only thing i would change is that i'd stop saving for that rainy day. i'd spend all the $ i have hehe./
