I’ve noticed that people use Xanga for various purposes. Some people use it to post up discussion topics or observations where people can comment and post responses while others use it to ramble on about the daily occurrences in their lives.
Personally, I enjoy the former as it utilizes what an online community should be in my opinion…people sharing ideas or thoughts and getting feedback and other perspectives on it. I find that some people’s entries can be very blunt yet funny such as dickWITHears or discussion related such as Temptress78′s entry regarding FTF’s and hookups.
[Begin rant] I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but am I the only one that finds entries regarding daily activities utterly boring and trivial? Seriously, who wants to read that you went to work, got shit-faced drinking, worked out, or watched a movie? (ie. I saw Matrix Reloaded tonight)…really?? no fucking way! Would you like a cookie now? Practically everyone’s page last week had some crap about the Matrix.
If people really wanted to know what daily activities your mundane life consisted of, maybe they’d call you and ask about it.
I dunno, perhaps the whole “reality-TV” concept has leaked over onto the internet. Maybe people enjoy reading about the daily lives of other people and want to live vicariously through them a la “reality-Xanga“?
*reading someone’s page* Wow, this person went out to some Asian party this weekend. What a cool guy! I wish my socially inept fat ass could get up behind this computer and go out to meet some REAL people! *dreams*….Nah~ Why bother? I can sit here stuffing my face with Oreos, punching away at the keyboard with my pudgy fingers and just pretend I’m out there dancing and meeting some hot chicks.
…*grabs some tissue and runs to the bathroom*
Anyways, let’s get to it people. Start posting something more thought-provoking and entertaining. If you insist on posting mindless drivel, at least make it funny!
My life isn’t that exciting itself, so I don’t post everyday about it like some people, but when I do, I hope that I’ve contributed in some way to your Xanga experience. [end rant]
“THANK YOU, COME AGAIN! – Apu (from the Simpsons)
NOTE: Before I get any hate comments regarding my entry, let me say this…I’ve learned a long time ago that people are going to either like me or hate me for who I am or how I think. I guess I’m old enough not to care anymore.
EDIT: Ok, it seems that a LOT of people are taking what I wrote personally and are misconstruing my intent. I was just expressing my own personal preference as to what I like to read when it comes to other people’s Xanga pages. I’m just as guilty of posting mindless drivel as much as the next person but I do try to keep it to a minimum. I’m not here to dictate what other people should or shouldn’t post about on their pages….as I said, I was only stating what I prefer to read myself. You may now return to your regularly scheduled program. Entertain me dammit!

oh yeah, jenny’s entry on ftf’s. VERY thought-provoking (notice the sarcasm in my voice–no offense jenny, i find it very entertaining).
not to mention that u’ve written about daily activities…oh…such as going to peter lugers for the first time.
hmmmm. ummmm…. mind u it doesn’t change what i think of u, just think i should have my say in this. first of all, i joined this xanga thing last summer. and the only reason i started is NOT to have thought provoking discussions but to keep in touch with my friends. i can’t call people on the fone like u can. and second, i’ve been making scrapbooks. and i put my journals in there. YEAH BOY!
o well @ if i don’t wanna talk about friends that fuck. o well @ if i don’t wanna talk about horny mofos. i guess all u gotta do is not read those boring entries, right? =) cheers!
Well you’re the exception Grace.
You’re excused since you’re in Korea and “reaching out and touching someone” by phone isn’t quite cost-effective or practical.
As for what I wrote, I don’t by any means expect people to change what they write on their pages for my sake. People gripe about shit all the time. I for one, would like to be entertained when I’m reading someone’s page. Is that so wrong?
hehe
yea but you never call anyone dave…..
dayum and i need to be touched too. JK. hehe. k i’m not kidding. haha.
