  • Ok since many of you don't seem to understand how this works, let me explain.  When you first purchase the Warcraft game, you create a game account using the individual CD-key that comes with it.  Once you open an account, you can create your own characters to play with in game.  Over time, as you level up your characters, you collect gear (armor, weapons, etc).  Some happen to be more rare than others and require you to group up with as many as 40 people to conquer certain parts of the game.

I've been playing for over a year now and my character happened to be one of the best geared on the entire server, meaning it had pretty much the best stuff you could get at the moment.  It's not easy to get the best gear in the game and honestly I was burnt out from always trying to be the first person to get the newest and best item that came out so I decided to sell while I was still ahead of most people in the game.  While my friend got $2500 for his account and I only got $1460 for mine, it's hard to compare the two because we both played totally different classes (warrior, rogue, priest, mage, etc).  If you go to Ebay, and do a search for "warcraft account", you'll see how much accounts typically go for (only a few hundred dollars).  $2500 is an abberation and most will never see that kind of money for their account and even my account sold for way more than normal.

As for who actually buys these accounts?  Generally they're older people who are married or have fulltime schedules that do not let them spend the required time in game to collect the best gear.  So they find it quicker to just buy an account with characters already geared up.

To give you an analogy, let's say you were a Xanga newcomer and wanted to be instantly "popular" on Xanga.  You could pay stillAdick $1500 in exhange for his account (username/password) and essentially "become" stillAdick.  It's the same concept here.

  • like the dread pirate roberts... or zorro, the name and the legend lives on but the actual players change. :o )

  • congratulations.  i know how it feels.  i used to be an EQ junkie.  I had my own server in college.  I even married off my character to another character online.  how sad in retrospect, but i had to sell my account too.  but before i did, i sold some of my other weapons to other fellow geeks to maximize profit.

  • that is a poor analogy.  i tell you why.  though i can understand why someone would pay for a warcraft account, i have NO IDEA why ANYONE would pay stilladick for his account.  lol.

you can essentially "become" the character you buy from warcraft, but no one can ever be dick.

    -ray leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
