The End of Days
Do you believe in armageddon? The end of the world?
Whether it be through religion or through movies, we've all been presented with the idea, but have you ever thought of the possibility of it really happening?
If the end of the world does come, how do you think it's going to happen? I doubt it'll be due to computers one day becoming "self aware" and seeking to destroy humanity by taking over our nuclear weapons (see Terminator). I think if the end were to ever come, it will be a result of war.
Now that the elections are over, it seems the issue of Iraq is behind us, or is it? For many out there, it was right for us to invade Iraq, despite the fact that no WMDs were found or the fact that Saddam never attacked the U.S. (There was no connection between 9/11 and Iraq.) What's done is done and regardless of who our president is now, we can't change that. What bothers me is the fact that people seem to think preemptive strikes are acceptable. Call me a tree-hugging liberal if you want but I believe that violence only breeds more violence.
"You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war." - Albert Einstein
Consider the following scenario:
In response to the war in Iraq, there's another major terrorist attack in the U.S. Of course to retaliate, the U.S. launches another offensive and invades another country in the Middle East (probably Iran or Syria). Whether it's actually responsible for the attack doesn't matter as long as it poses an "imminent threat". Because our military is already spread thin due to the war in Iraq, the government has no choice but to instill a draft in order to fight this new war. Outraged Americans refuse to give into a draft and a civil war breaks out in our country between the citizens and the government. Perceiving the instability and chaos, the Arab nations seize the opportunity to attack Israel and/or the U.S. This escalates to a very short WWIII due to nuclear weapons being used. Modern civilization as we know it is over.
"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein
Does that sound far fetched or ridiculous to you? Just as far fetched and unbelievable as the idea of people flying planes into buildings?
It's really sad that we're in the 21st century and despite all our advances in technology and science (even within the past 100 years), that war still exists.
Religion has been the cause of bloodshed throughout the history of man. One religion trying to prove that it's right and the others are wrong. However, there is one thing that all religions seem to agree on. Every religion whether it be Christianity, Islam, or Judaism makes mention of the end of the world. Some religious fundamentalists will even go so far as believing they're one of the catalysts to make it happen. What better way to illustrate the idea of "free will" than to make the choices to destroy ourselves.
Today, religion has been replaced by politics. Because democracy seems to be working so well in this country, we seem to be on a mission to unilaterally impose democracy on other countries.
This "war on terror" presumes that all terrorists are nothing but religious psychos out to kill indiscriminately, but even psychos have their reasons.
For example, although it's never discussed because to do so would be anti-semetic
, a BIG reason behind the attacks on 9/11 was due to the U.S.'s support of Israel. In the Bin Laden video released last week, he even said he got the idea for 9/11 after watching buildings in Lebanon destroyed by U.S. supported Israel.
The criticism for the U.S. support of Israel still exists today but you'll never see any politician address it. After all, they wouldn't want to piss off all the rich Jewish people in our country. It's much easier to just brand them all terrorists and seek out their destruction.
Until the underlying reasons for terrorism are addressed, this "war on terror" will be no more successful than the "war on drugs".
For every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction...

Couldn't agree more. We are truly in interesting times. Religion is at the heart of it. It is quite wierd but I listen to alot of the wierd ultra-right wing religious shows and 1/2 of all programming is about the great "tribultion" this is Jesus second comming.
The more Christian you are the more ya look forward to this day and think it is right around the corner. All the "true beleivers will be wisked up to Heaven and the rest of us will be left to fight in a 7 year war. Lots of these folk beleive it will start in the Middle east with our nuclear bombs etc....Jesus will return and a new kingdom of heaven will reign on earth. Insanity. Fuckers are lusting after this day.
I think we will all just be dead personally. Think it is alot of hocus pocus and insane. Religion gave the election to Bush and anything is conceivable.
.....................
On secular issues you brought up. If it alllll goes to shit in the middleeast...Ya gotta also consider China's seeing weakness and invading Taiwan (hot issue for years). North Korea could then pre-emptively attack South Korea (we have been pulling out for a long time) Russia is gonna join the side that is most adventagious to itself and whoever is winning.
In the end, Bush will think he is starting the great Tribulation. Dumb Motherfucker. We let it happen.
God help us.
"God help us"...thats all our hope right there if all that stuff happens.
There was no connection between 9/11 and Iraq.
There is, both were Arab.
"For many out there, it was right for us to invade Iraq, despite the fact that no WMDs were found or the fact that Saddam never attacked the U.S."
Ahhh.. but we did not know there were no WMDs at the time. If we had known there were no WMDs before we went into Iraq, the invasion would never have happened. Even if Bush wanted to do so, he would not have gotten the support that he did from congress.
i think the major reason people don't sharply criticize the US-Israel relationship is because people generally support the US backing of Israel. Israel is surrounded by countries that hate it. If the US were to show any weakness or not back Israel strongly, the country would perish.
In a somewhat similar fashion, the US backs Taiwan. You don't hear people criticizing that relationship not because they're afraid of being anti-taiwanese... but because they generally believe it is the right thing to do.
Admittedly the situation in Israel is much stickier and ugly.
couldn't have said it better myself. it'll be interesting to see how the world ends up in 4 years.
My fingers are crossed.
fuck them cameljockies!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I posted something very similar on my site but you said it SOOOO much better than I!
Completely agree... especially regarding the whole Israel-Palestine conflict that we are so unfortunately tied to. I understand that without our great support Israel may perish, but we need to realize that what the Israelis are also partaking in terrorism in Palestine but in a different form (they talk as if their actions are purely military). The Gaza strip was given to Israel without permission from Palestine. The British and the Americans gave the land (and the people on it) to Israel and Israel treated those people who had lived there for thousands of years poorly. How can one expect to supress and harm those who live on land they've lived on for years to love their supressors? Think about what would make someone kill themselves to kill others? Sometimes they're forced into it by the way their living conditions are.
Anyways, that's an issue that may never be solved... oh and about religion in this country, well I personally believe it is cyclical. We go from having a strict moral structure (think the late 40s and 50s) to a more free and rule-less society (60s, 70s, 90s)... I think people are just reacting to the deterioration of moral values here in this country. They're afraid of the consequences therefore the country will become more conservative and then slowly people will revolt against that. Or at least I hope...
(sorry for the long comment, I could write more but I'll restrain myself.)
hmm action and reaction... nice how you incorporate physics into your post
First term: Bush declares war on and attacks two foreign countries, overthrowing their existing government and sending them into chaos. This term?
bomb em all back to the old testiment.
the us lean towards israel is much deeper than most people think. look at the celebrating jews who were whisked out of the country on 9/11.
anti-zionism does not equal anti semitism. ariel sharon is a war criminal and what israel is doing to palestine is criminal.
i'd be fucking pissed if i was palestinian also.
p.s. blaybul's comment was extraordinarily insightful. the part about the pali's plight as well as the cyclicality of morality/history.
seriously...excellent insight.
i thought about that as well. history tends to move in cycles...from 1 extreme back to another. for example, we're at the stage at which rome started to crumble, when ppl started to fixate on selfish pleasures vs the community politic.
trying to not get too political....between the two, i have more faith in bush as a better and stronger commander and chief. i know that bush is no where near perfect, and to tell u the truth, there are some issues that i actually disagree with, but in the end, i believe that bush is the better president. i also think that the way kerry approached his campaign, with the massive hippie celebrity endorsements, changing his platform every few days, etc..made me not trust his leadership skills. regardless of the people for or against war, the fact is, there's a war going on..and i'd rather have a strong (some say over-zealous) leader with a speech impediment than a weenie on a snowboard. :p
Interesting theory: Osama released those tapes right before the election to actually get Bush RE-elected cuz he's the best thing to happen to terrorism since Allah. Nice Einstein quotes.
i love this post. can i put this on my xanga? i'll credit you and all. people need to read this.
just posted it. thanks so much!
i thought similarly but don't like to type all that ... good job! haha
very well put...i hope things won't lead to that but I am worried about where our country is headed with Bush as its leader.
i hear ya about violence perpetuating more violence... that bush is bad news... hehheh
well put
It's comming my friend. And you need to be ready. Read you bible.
Really well put. Yes, I believe in Armageddon but have not idea whether these are the end times or not.
Computers becoming "self aware" scares me... I'm so mean to my computer!
im sorry, i suppose i dont give credit where it really is due. i often just stumble on someone's page or just online with some stuff. i dont mean to assume as if it's mine, or my created at all. im sorry for the lack of credit.
Lets see even if bush knew that they did not have WMDs there are way to hide things even from the higer ups. So if Bush really wanted the war to happen it would have still happened. As for Armageddon yes I Do belive in it and WWIII well be part of it that is a fact.
"You don't bring a gun to a sword battel, You'll loss every time."
Dude, you hit the spot, i couldnt agree with you more. I would give you 4 props if i could. Well, for those who believe we didnt know about the lack of WMD's in Iraq, I would ask them to go a few years back when Scott Ritter, former UN inspector confirming that all weapons were destroyed before 1997. Also, Hans Blix and Mohammed El Baradaei of the IAEA also confirmed that there were no weapons to be found PRIOR to the war in Iraq.
Also, to the comment about Israel perishing without American backing. I strongly disagree, considering that this is the only nation in the middleast that does have WMD's and Nuclear and Biological Weapons. Israel also boasts to have the most lethal intelligence agency in the world (Mossad) and one of the best trained militaries this world has ever seen. Anyways...all we really can do is hope for the best for our country.
Awesome Post!
Absolument. Awesome post. And U got all ur facts AhmedM04.
As for Israel existing in a hostile neighborhood.... people, that's where they wanted it. The Palestinians and the rest of the Arabic world certainly didnt invite them to occupy a country that had been around for approx. 2000 years and is now OFF the map. Sorry if I come out a bit strong, but the victim idea really needs to be looked into. Anti-semitism is a HUGE problem, but please do not mistake Anti-zionism with it.
And expansion is still going on. And the Palestinians that were displaced are still in refuge camps... for 50 yrs.. and you fault them for fighting? Also, one has an official millitary, the other doesnt.
And there is a difference in the support of Taiwan, and in the support of Israel. The situation is different. The means of support is different: political backing, weapon supply (though not quite as much in recent years), moral backing (Israelis as the victims/ the natural people as the antagonist and terrorists), etc. IN Israel issue, the Israelis moved INTO Palestine.. in Taiwan issue, the Chinese want to move into/have tried to move into Taiwan. How are they the same?
It reminds me of the displacing of Native Americans by the Europeans, differing only in the fact that there is no ancient claim to be had by the Europeans when they first ventured to the New World. But I ask you, is the ancient claim sufficient now? Would you like it if someone claimed to have lived in your home at one time and not only MOVED IN, but demanded that you move out? What compensation were the Palestinians given for being displaced by the Zionists?
And another thing. Allah is the arabic word for God, just as God is the ENGLISH word. They are the SAME entity (if you believe in God).
Wow. VERY long comment. Sry about that. ot carried awai. ^^;; NE WHO, props Phatboy113!! Love ur site!!! U've got awesome Ideas!!!
great post! we have no idea how it feels to live in fear everyday. 9/11 was huge, but i get the feeling something bigger may happen. hope not =T
all i can say is.. wow... you've got this really huge point...
i'm with you on this one too. i dun understand why does the U.S. always have to be the big brother for EVERYTHING. if anyone doesn't listen to him, he will go into your country and start a war, i mean wtf??!! i guess the problem is the war was never taken place in this land, if it does, maybe the government will really consider the meaning of "world peace"
all i kno is, if there will be WWIII, i'll be back in Hong Kong rather then here, overall i think the China government is smart enough not to get involved.

Yes. Your post is indeed well thought out and well informed. And your articulation is extraordinary, considering the controversy and division surrounding this issue. I couldnt have said it better myself!!

I definetively enjoy reading your entries. You seem to have quite a blend of seriousness and sheer stupidity that makes me want to come back more and more. Don't get mad at the stupidity part... i meant it in a funny way..... as the last post describing why black men have bigger penises... i was rolling on the floor laughing hysterically at that one. Anyway... I just want to say that you are one cool dude. LOL hahaha... okie. *later*
very nice...
however, when you are as strong as the US is, you can do whatever the fuck you want and nothing will happen to you. Just look at Great Britain! They smoked so many countries only to profit themselves and did anybody retaliate? no.
stop being such a lawyer punk.
