Well, I just quit my job today and gave them my 2 week notice. It’s weird how things can happen so unexpectedly. I’ve been at my current job for almost 6 years now and although I interviewed with several places a year or so ago, I didn’t get any offers despite how well I thought the interviews went. With school over for the semester, I was planning on looking again for another job during the summer but I didn’t expect one to come around so quickly.
I wasn’t actively looking for a new job but an opportunity came across my lap and I couldn’t pass it up. An ex-coworker of mine called me up out of the blue and asked me if I’d be interested in a job at his firm. Although I wasn’t really interested at the time, I sent in my resume, was interviewed and was offered the job all within the span of a week.
The position is at a pretty big corporate lawfirm in the city and although they’re only offering me $7k more than what I make now to start, I’d be getting another $3k in December. Not to mention, it would look great on my resume later on. I can only hope to get a position at the firm as an attorney after I graduate being that they pay $140k to start. That would be SWEEET!
As word spread around the office that I was leaving, I couldn’t help but feel saddened as I’ve grown pretty close with several of my coworkers as well at the attorneys I work with. I still have another 2 weeks left before I leave but I already have a flood of emotions running through me in anticipation of my last day.
The only bad part about the job is that I’m going to have like a 2 hour commute each way. I promised myself that after commuting to Bronx Science everyday back during my highschool days, I would never subject myself to a ridiculous commute again but I guess I have to deal with it. It won’t be so bad for the time being since I’m off from school for the summer but it’s gonna suck big time once classes start again. I’d be getting out of class around 10pm only to endure the long commute back home.
